THE MOON ROCK TREE

People often ask me, ‘why skiing?’ In a family whose origins are the Hunter Valley and for whom sport meant

Swimming tennis and Rugby? It all began when, in the early 1930s as a 15-16-year-old., my mother Phemie Gilmour Faith Wallis (née Mallaby), went on a Maitland Girls’ High School excursion to the Snowy Mountains. The rest, as they say, is history. I recently wrote a short story about her adventure and while some of the details have been changed in the interests of dramatic licence, its essence is true.
